Mentoplasty
Chin Surgery
The geometry and harmony of the face have been studied for hundreds of years. Within this, the chin plays a fundamental role in its relationship with the other facial structures, such as the nose, cheekbones and forehead. As a result, depending on the shape and projection of the chin, the overall facial aesthetic result will be positive or negative.
The chin can be modified using facial implants, bone advancement and reshaping, fat grafts or other injectables.
Before & After

Surgical Planning
During your medical assessment, Dr Sarrià will analyse the proportions of the chin in relation to the face. You will need to clearly explain your expectations so that he can offer you the different treatment options available.
Depending on the chin’s projection, we may discuss increasing or reducing it. We will refer to this as augmentation mentoplasty or reduction mentoplasty, depending on your case.
Indications for Mentoplasty
If you have a very projected or wide chin, the surgery will basically consist of reshaping or filing down the bony edge. This surgery is performed via an intraoral approach through the lower lip.
If, on the other hand, you have an underprojected or hypoplastic chin, several treatment options are available: advancement mentoplasty, chin implants, fat transfer or injectables. Dr Sarrià will be able to advise you on the best technique for your case.
Surgery and Anaesthesia
Mentoplasty is performed in an operating theatre under general anaesthesia. The surgery takes between 30 minutes and an hour and is carried out on an outpatient basis, meaning the patient can go home after just a few hours.
Mentoplasty Postoperative Period
This is not a painful surgery, and any minor discomfort can easily be managed with oral painkillers.
Dr Sarrià will advise you on medication and oral hygiene recommendations.
You will be able to return to work a few days after the operation.
Results become apparent as swelling gradually subsides, with a stable result achieved at around 3 months. This means that, although the result is noticeable immediately, its appearance will continue to improve as the months go by.
