Facial Lipofilling
Restoring Lost Volume
Natural Rejuvenation
Over the years, one of the main signs of facial ageing is a loss of volume, caused by the atrophy of fat and bone tissue. Key areas, such as the cheeks and eyes, lose volume and shift position, creating an older appearance. Facial lipofilling, or lipostructure, is a highly effective technique for restoring this lost volume by transferring the patient’s own fat to the areas that need it.
Advantages of Facial Lipofilling
The two main advantages of this technique are its long-lasting nature and the fact that it is autologous, meaning it uses the patient’s own tissue, removing any risk of rejection.
Before & After

What does Facial Lipofilling involve?
Facial lipofilling can be performed on its own or combined with other procedures, such as blepharoplasty or a facelift. Depending on the volume of fat to be transferred and the patient’s preferences, the procedure can be performed in an operating theatre or in-clinic under local anaesthesia.
The process involves several stages:
- Fat extraction: Fat is carefully extracted from areas such as the abdomen, flanks or thighs.
- Fat processing: The extracted fat is purified using decantation, filtering or centrifugation techniques to minimise cell loss.
- Fat injection: The purified fat is injected into the areas of the face where volume needs to be restored, such as the cheeks, temples or under the eyes.
It is worth noting that approximately 50% of the injected fat is reabsorbed, which is why slight overcorrection is common during the injection stage to ensure a long-lasting result.
Facial Lipofilling Postoperative Period
Recovery from facial lipofilling is generally comfortable, with minimal side effects. Some swelling is common but gradually disappears in the days following the procedure. Most patients experience little to no pain or bruising.
It is important to avoid applying pressure or making forceful movements over the treated areas. The survival of the fat graft depends on its blood supply developing, a process that is generally complete within 3 to 4 weeks.
Facial lipofilling offers a natural, long-lasting and effective way to restore lost volume, giving the face a more youthful, harmonious appearance.
