Breast Implant Removal
Natural, Harmonious Restoration of Breast Contour

Breast implant removal is an important decision that many women make after years of use or due to complications arising from previous surgeries. Whether due to changes in personal taste, aesthetic issues, or concerns about the integrity of the implants, the removal process requires a professional, careful and personalised approach to restore the breast’s natural shape and beauty.

Before & After

Common Reasons for
Breast Implant Removal

There are several reasons why a patient may choose to have her breast implants removed:

  • Changes in taste or self-perception: As a person changes, their aesthetic preferences can evolve, leading them to decide they no longer want to keep their implants.
  • Poor aesthetic results from previous surgeries: In some cases, the results obtained from previous surgeries do not meet expectations.
  • Implant complications or suspected rupture: Implants may develop cracks or ruptures, causing discomfort and concerns about health.
  • Implant rejection: Some patients may experience adverse reactions or discomfort related to the implant.
  • Wear or change in volume: Patients may choose to remove their implants when they are no longer satisfied with the volume initially achieved, or wish for a more natural appearance.

Breast Implant Removal Process

Breast implants, particularly larger ones, cause noticeable changes to breast anatomy, which can lead to sagging, atrophy of the mammary gland and stretching of the skin. Once removed, the breast can appear empty, saggy and unaesthetic, making it necessary to restore the breast’s shape and volume.

The procedure is not limited to removing the implants; it often requires a series of additional procedures to return the breast to its natural, aesthetically pleasing state.

What does breast implant removal involve?

Breast implant removal involves a series of specialised surgical techniques aimed at restoring breast aesthetics harmoniously:

  • Mastopexy: In many cases, a mastopexy, or breast lift, will be necessary to correct skin sagging and give the breast a firmer, more lifted shape.
  • Capsulectomy: It is essential to remove the periprosthetic capsule, a scar that forms around the implant, to ensure a more natural reconstruction of the breast tissue.
  • Muscle restoration: If the implant was placed under the pectoral muscle, its original shape and function will need to be restored.
  • Lipofilling: In some cases, fat transfer (lipofilling) is performed to provide a more natural contour, add volume, or smooth irregularities in the breast contour.

Recovery and Results

Breast implant removal is performed under general anaesthesia, and recovery time will depend on the complexity of the procedure and whether a mastopexy or lipofilling is also performed. Most of our patients can resume their daily routine within a few days, although it is important to avoid intense physical exertion during the first few weeks to ensure proper healing.

At our clinic, we are dedicated to delivering natural, harmonious results, always with a personalised approach tailored to each patient’s needs. Dr Sarrià and his team are committed to excellence, providing quality medical care and close follow-up throughout the entire process, from the initial consultation to postoperative recovery.
