Tuberous Breast Correction
Restore Harmony and Confidence
A tuberous breast is a developmental alteration of the breast that affects both aesthetics and self-esteem in those who have it. It is a congenital malformation that becomes apparent during adolescence, when the breast does not develop harmoniously due to a fibrous ring that restricts its growth, causing a tubular or conical shape.
Before & After

Characteristics of
Tuberous Breasts
Tuberous breasts can present a number of distinctive characteristics:
- Tubular or conical shape, rather than a rounded structure.
- Short lower pole and a high inframammary fold, limiting volume in the lower part of the breast.
- Enlarged, herniated areolas, due to pressure from the restricted breast tissue.
- Excessive separation between the breasts, affecting the appearance of the cleavage.
- Marked asymmetry, which can make one breast noticeably different from the other.
This type of condition can cause physical and psychological discomfort, as many patients feel their breasts do not have the appearance they want.
Corrective Surgery: A Personalised Solution
Correcting tuberous breasts is one of the most complex procedures in breast surgery, requiring an advanced surgical technique and detailed planning. Depending on the degree of tuberosity and the patient’s expectations, different strategies are used to achieve a natural, harmonious result.
Surgical Planning
During the first consultation, we carry out a thorough assessment of the breast to determine the best surgical technique. Some of the factors we evaluate include:
- Degree of tuberosity and level of tissue restriction.
- Existing breast volume and the possibility of placing implants.
- Presence of asymmetry and the need for further correction.
- Areola size and position, to define the reshaping technique.
In many cases, placing a breast implant is essential to expand the tissue and give the breast a more natural shape. Complementary techniques such as inverted-T mastopexy or the Puckett technique may also be used to restructure the tissue.
Before surgery, we schedule a second visit to answer any questions and finalise the last details.
Surgical Procedure
Tuberous breast correction surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and takes approximately 1 to 2 hours. Afterwards, the patient will stay in hospital overnight for proper monitoring during the initial recovery.
The surgical techniques used include:
- Release of the fibrous ring, allowing the breast tissue to expand naturally.
- Glandular reshaping, to improve breast shape and projection.
- Areola reduction and repositioning, if necessary.
- Implant placement in cases requiring greater volume or better contour definition.
Recovery and Postoperative Care
Recovery from this surgery is gradual and requires following certain guidelines to optimise results:
- Special dressing or bra: After surgery, the patient will wear a compression dressing or bra to stabilise the breast.
- Pain control: Thanks to advanced surgical techniques and anaesthetic blocks, most patients experience only mild discomfort, without the need for strong painkillers.
- Return to daily life: Patients usually return to their daily activities within 3 to 5 days, depending on the individual.
- Avoiding exertion: During the first month, it is important not to strain the upper body or practise high-impact sports.
- Scar monitoring: Incisions are carefully cared for to minimise their visibility. By 12–18 months, scars will be barely noticeable.
Natural, Long-Lasting Results
The aim of this surgery is to correct the malformation and achieve a harmonious, natural breast, improving not only aesthetics but also the patient’s confidence.
