Scar Correction
at Dr Sarrià's Clinic
A Personalised, Advanced Approach
Scars are the result of the skin’s natural healing process following an injury, whether from a wound, surgery or burn. The main characteristic of a scar is a build-up of fibrous tissue, which alters the appearance of the skin. However, it is important to understand that scars can have different origins and present in various forms, requiring an individualised approach to treatment.
At the Dr Sarrià Clinic, we assess not only the appearance and structure of the scar, but also its origin, size, location and the patient’s medical history. This analysis allows us to design a treatment plan tailored to each patient’s expectations, optimising results and minimising any complications.
Advanced Treatment for Scar Improvement
Scar treatment aims, first and foremost, to remove the excess fibrous tissue generated during healing. In cases where significant improvement is the goal, complete removal of the scar followed by carefully planned closure may be performed. This process takes the skin’s natural lines into account so the resulting scar becomes less visible over time. In some cases, additional surgical techniques such as Z-plasty or W-plasty may also be required to prevent the scar from widening due to tension in the area.
In specific areas, such as the back or the supraclavicular region, where the risk of widening or the formation of hypertrophic or keloid scars is higher, additional precautions are taken to avoid these effects.

Options for Softening Scars
If the goal is to improve the scar without removing it completely, there are less invasive options that have also shown good results. These include:
- Corticosteroid Injections:
This treatment aims to reduce fibrosis in the scar, causing a small amount of atrophy in the area and flattening the scar. It is particularly useful for hypertrophic or keloid scars. - Dermabrasion:
This procedure is used to even out the surface of the scar, achieving a smoother, more uniform finish. - Laser Scar Improvement:
Laser treatment is another less invasive option used to improve the appearance of scars. In particular, fractional laser and CO2 laser are effective at reducing scar visibility and improving texture. These lasers work precisely on the superficial layers of the skin, promoting cell regeneration and stimulating collagen production. As a result, scars become smoother and less visible, and the surrounding skin is rejuvenated. The intraoperative Urgotouch laser, used during surgery, is also an advanced resource for improving scars in real time. This laser allows for more efficient healing and reduces the occurrence of thick or keloid scars, promoting smoother, more even results.
